StellarOne’s Consumer Privacy Policy Notice

At StellarOne, your privacy is important to us. We collect and use the nonpublic personal information received from you to deliver the high level of service you have come to expect from us. We recognize the confidence you have placed in us and we are dedicated to protecting access to the information shared with us responsibly.

Our Pledge to Your Privacy

We recognize that you expect your nonpublic personal information to remain private and secure. The privacy of nonpublic personal information is a significant concern when assessing internal controls, procedures, and security programs of StellarOne.

At StellarOne, we believe the confidentiality and protection of nonpublic personal information is one of our fundamental responsibilities. While the collection of this information is critical to providing quality service, we recognize that one of our most important assets is your trust. Therefore, the safekeeping of nonpublic personal information is a priority for StellarOne.

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect customers’ nonpublic personal information. We continually explore new technology to enhance security of this information. Protection of nonpublic personal information applies equally to our current and former customers.

At StellarOne, we recognize that when you provide medical information to us for a specific purpose (such as credit life or accident and health insurance on a loan request) you do not wish such information to be used for other purposes. If you provide medical information to us, we will not disclose that information unless you authorize such disclosure.

Collection and Use of Information

Your relationship with us is very important and we are committed to providing you with the best service possible. To do that, we gather information from a variety of sources to keep you informed about the many financial services, products, and benefits available to you as a StellarOne customer, and to provide you the ability to manage your finances most effectively. For example, we collect information from the following sources:

  • Information we receive from you on applications, personal financial statements, oral, written, or electronic communications;
  • Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or others;
  • Information we receive from third parties, such as persons providing services in connection with your transactions and/or consumer reporting agencies.

We collect information necessary to administer our business processes and to provide you with quality products and services. In addition, we may use this information to administer or enforce transactions initiated or authorized by you. The information we collect from you is also used for identification purposes. This is to help protect your accounts from unauthorized access.

We safeguard your nonpublic personal information in business relationships with third parties.

We may disclose all of the information we collect, as described previously, to companies that perform marketing services on our behalf or to other financial institutions with whom we have joint marketing agreements.

We choose the companies we do business with very carefully. Companies we may share your information with include (a) financial service providers, such as insurance companies and payment–processing companies or (b) non–financial companies, such as check printers and data processing companies. These companies might assist us in fulfilling your request for a service, processing your transaction, or mailing account statements.

These companies are contractually required to keep the information we provide to them confidential and secure. They are not allowed to use our customers’ nonpublic personal information for any other purpose than for the services we have asked them to perform. We do not sell our customers’ nonpublic personal information to anyone. We make disclosures to other nonaffiliated third parties as permitted by law. Therefore there is no need for our customers to opt out of information sharing.

Disclosure of Information in Other Situations

We disclose information as otherwise permitted or required by federal and state laws. For example, to credit bureaus, in response to a subpoena or similar legal process, fraud investigation, recording of deeds of trust and mortgages in public records, or the sale of a particular line of business or function (for example, mortgage servicing rights). StellarOne reserves the right, in such circumstances, to transfer ownership of the related customer database to the purchaser.

If you close your account(s) or your relationship becomes inactive, we will continue to protect the information we have collected about you in accordance with this notice.

Employee Access to Customer Information

Our employees have access to nonpublic personal information to enable them to provide you with accurate and efficient customer service. We instill in our employees the required confidential nature of the information they may encounter in their jobs at the bank. Our employees are educated on implementing StellarOne’s privacy and security principles and practices to ensure the highest level of confidentiality of customer information.

Maintenance of Accurate Information

We continually strive to maintain complete and accurate information about you and your accounts. Should you ever believe that our records contain inaccurate or incomplete information about you, please notify us. We will investigate your concerns and correct any inaccuracies.
