Director of Retail Banking

JOB SUMMARY: Has responsibility for overall leadership and management of retail banking and related activities in the bank's branches including sales, service, expense and credit controls, community involvement, human resource management and financial/policy/compliance standards. Manages branch activities through Market Managers and utilizes staff/matrix departments for support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Establishes service policies and standards for customer service in order to ensure customer satisfaction and retention. Assures consistent and effective practice of sales management and sales programs. Assures adequate tracking mechanisms are in place for critical performance indicators, processes, compliance/policy assuring actual practices align with bank goals. Takes appropriate action to ensure that all goals and standards are met. Assures that effective credit and appraisal policies are followed and that credit is extended on a sound basis. Takes a leadership role in the bank, in the management structure of the Retail Division and a visible active role in the branch system. Designs and implements strategies, policies, and procedures to maximize profitability and support bank’s mission and goals. Maximizes branches' profitability. Monitors performance to ensure efficient and cost effective branches in accordance with Business Plan and budgets. Exercises executive and administrative control over functions of all branch locations and departments assigned, including participation in the budget process, development/implementation of policies and explanation of company programs and objectives. Coordinates, manages, and influences the annual budget process which covers all branch expenses and deposit goals. Oversees the development of policies and procedures for the retail delivery/branch system, ensuring training and resources are available to achieve business goals and that security and legal compliance requirements are met.

RELATED FUNCTIONS: Represents the bank in key community activities, including business, charitable, civic and social organizations to maintain a proper responsible citizen stature for the bank. Assures effective exchange of information throughout the branch system and bank to assist meeting goals and matching activities to strategies. Assists Market Managers through effective planning, coaching and leadership. Ensures on-going utilization of resources throughout the bank are directed to support branch goals.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent will be responsible for meeting the requirements for all statutes/regulations pertaining to or governing their positions/departments as summarized in the most current version of the Statute/Regulation Responsibility Matrix in the Compliance Manual.

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT: This position requires a high level of independent judgment as it pertains to decisions concerning the evaluation of performance and the adjustment of direct reports compensation. In addition, this person must use a great amount of independent judgment when assessing budgets and problem solving.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to plan, work and operate at a strategic level within context of bank's vision and goals, understanding of strategy. Proven management, leadership and coaching skills. Bachelor degree in Business Administration or related field desired. Strong personnel management and supervisory skills. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills. Strong action-oriented decision and problem solving skills. Must possess a clear understanding of retail and bank vision and ability to communicate it to others. Thorough knowledge of bank operations, credit and compliance requirements. Manages and works well with diverse work-groups, team and group-oriented activities. Shares success and recognition and shares personal goals through the performance of others.
